Taipei, March 10 (CNA) Routine data from the Ministry of the Interior (MOI) released on Monday showed that Taiwan’s population decreased in February, marking the 14th consecutive month of decline.
Taiwan’s population at the end of February 2025 was 23,384,614, a decrease of 11,435 from the end of January, according to the MOI.
The birth rate of 5.80 per 1,000 people was lower than the death rate of 12.20 per 1,000, resulting in the overall decline in the nation’s population in February.
Net migration had a minimal impact on Taiwan’s population change in February. A total of 122,992 people migrated into the country during the month, while 122,946 migrated out, resulting in a net increase of just 46 people.
Taiwan’s population, according to the government’s household registration data, decreased by 33,439 in the 12 months leading up to the end of February 2025. This equates to an average decline of nearly 92 people per day over the year-long period.
