Wet weather to continue for most of Taiwan on Friday

Taipei, March 14 (CNA) Intermittent showers or thunderstorms are expected to continue across most of Taiwan on Friday, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).

Due to the unstable weather, chances of heavy rainfall are also likely to occur in some areas in the northern, northeastern and eastern parts of Taiwan, the CWA said in its latest forecast early Friday.

Cooler temperatures are also likely to continue, the CWA said, forecasting daytime lows of 17-20 degrees Celsius for central and northern Taiwan and 21-23 degrees in the east and south.

Meanwhile, a strong cold air mass approaching Taiwan is expected to bring even cooler temperatures over the next few days beginning Sunday, the CWA forecast.

Lows of 10 degrees are expected for the north on Monday, while other parts of Taiwan could see the mercury drop below 15 degrees, it said.

With the cold air mass sweeping in, the agency said snow may fall on mountains over 3,000 meters in northern and central Taiwan on Sunday and Monday, and it warned motorists eager to get a glimpse of the snow that mountain roads could be icy during this period.

The cold air system is expected to ease on March 21, helping temperatures rebound, the CWA said.
