Taipei, March 19 (CNA) Authorities in Taipei are seeking a new owner for a pit bull named Lucky, who was confiscated after biting people on two separate occasions this month.
The Taipei City Animal Protection Office said in a statement on Wednesday that Lucky is currently being kept alone to minimize stress and is looking for owners who have experience with pit bulls.
Lucky mauled people on two separate occasions, prompting the Taipei City government to fine the owner NT$200,000 (for violating the Animal Protection Act by allowing an aggressive pet to roam in a public place without proper supervision and precautions.
The authorities confiscated the dog on Tuesday after meeting with its then-owner, identified by his surname Hsu (徐), at his home in the city’s southern Wenshan District.
Chen Chun-an (陳俊安), commissioner of the Taipei City government’s Department of Economic Development, said that the original owner is no longer allowed to look after Lucky due to his lack of control over the animal.
During the attacks on March 6 and March 17, Lucky climbed out through the window of Hsu’s stationary vehicle and viciously bit unsuspecting scooter drivers.
The victim of the first attack was still receiving treatment at hospital as of Tuesday, Chen said that day.
