Exhibition on Taiwan’s indigenous culture opens in Prague

by Focus Taiwan

Prague, April 16 (CNA) An exhibition showcasing the rich cultural heritage and technical ingenuity of Taiwan’s indigenous peoples opened on Tuesday at the National Technical Museum in Prague.

Co-organized by Taiwan and the Czech Republic, the exhibit “creatively presents the everyday life of Taiwan’s indigenous peoples,” the museum said.

Developed in collaboration with the National Taiwan Museum, the exhibit includes a tatala fishing boat built by Yami (Tao) tribe author Syaman Rapongan and a traditional hunting hut constructed by Tsou tribe hunter An Hsiao-ming (安孝明).

Both works, reflecting indigenous craftsmanship, will become part of the Czech museum’s permanent collection.

Visitors can explore indigenous life through more than 100 artifacts, including ceramic figurines, carved ornaments, and hunting tools.

Interactive displays and virtual reality experiences also aim to offer immersive insights into indigenous people’s skills in animal tracking, shelter building, and traditional seafaring.

In a pre-recorded message played at the opening ceremony, Taiwan’s Culture Minister Li Yuan (李遠) described the exhibition as “the first step to discovering Taiwan.”

“After seeing it, the next step will be booking a flight to visit our beautiful island,” Li said.

The exhibit will run through Sept. 28.
