Taipei, April 29 (CNA) Hwang Jau-yuan (黃昭元), a former justice on Taiwan’s Constitutional Court, has been appointed as Taiwan’s representative to the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Presidential Office said Tuesday.
Hwang’s appointment as representative to the WTO, the only major international organization in which Taiwan has full membership, was made via presidential order.
He will replace Lo Chang-fa (羅昌發), also a former grand justice who has held the position since 2020, and submitted a request to retire, the order said.
Hwang, 62, sat on the Constitutional Court from 2016 to 2024. Prior to that, he was a National Taiwan University law professor with specializations in constitutional law, comparative law, international law, and international human rights law.
Hwang holds a master of laws degree from National Taiwan University and later earned a second LL.M. and doctorate in law from Harvard University in the United States.
