Taipei, March 29 (CNA) Multiple Taiwan-based charity organizations have launched fundraising campaigns following the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar on Friday.
World Vision Taiwan has opened a dedicated donation project to provide food, water, shelter and other essential supplies to affected communities, aiming to assist 500,000 victims.
Donations can be made at https://www.worldvision.org.tw/donations/18319, the group said in a press release, adding that it is also assessing the possibility of expanding relief efforts to other affected regions, including Thailand, Bangladesh and Laos.
Meanwhile, the Red Cross Society of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has set up a donation portal at https://donate.redcross.org.tw/civicrm/contribute/transact?reset=1&id=25, it said.
The Red Cross said its counterpart in Myanmar has also deployed emergency response teams to provide urgent care for the injured and those searching for missing loved ones.
FamilyMart, a major convenience store chain in Taiwan, has launched a charity platform through its mobile app in collaboration with local NGOs.
The funds collected will support emergency relief, including temporary shelters, food, water, medical aid and long-term recovery efforts, it said.
In addition, the Taoyuan-based Mandarin-Education Volunteer Organization in Myanmar (MEVOM) is calling for public support for its donation drive, which focuses on aiding schools, community centers, and vulnerable populations in disaster-stricken areas.
MEVOM said its fundraising campaign will run until April 30, with a six-month execution period, including a final briefing on its activities by Sept. 30.
Donations can be made via Chunghwa Post (Longtan Post Office), account number 0281305-1138819. The account name is Hua Yu International Cultural and Educational Association.
Donors are advised to specify “Myanmar Earthquake” and provide transaction details for receipt issuance, it said.
The magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck near Mandalay, Myanmar’s second-largest city, at a depth of 10 kilometers. The temblor caused great damage around the country and in neighboring Thailand.
