Taipei, April. 1 (CNA) Taiwan and North Macedonia have agreed to extend their existing bilateral visa-free programs for another five years, from April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2030, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced Tuesday.
Citizens from the two countries can visit each other’s territory without a visa for up to 90 days within any 180-day period, MOFA said in a statement, adding that related information has been updated on the websites of Taiwan’s and North Macedonia’s foreign ministries.
The reciprocal visa-free arrangement began in 2012, but on the Taiwanese side, it still only applies to Taiwanese nationals whose passport contains a national identification card number, according to MOFA.
Having a national identification card number means the passport holder is a Taiwanese national and has a household registration in Taiwan, which guarantees his or her civil and political rights.
Some overseas compatriots, despite holding Republic of China (Taiwan) passports, do not have household registration in Taiwan.
Meanwhile, MOFA reminded nationals traveling to the landlocked country in Southeast Europe to follow local laws and regulations.
