Taipei, March 29 (CNA) Temperatures in northern Taiwan could fall to as low as 14 degrees Celsius on Saturday as a cold air mass arrives, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).
Following several days of warm weather, the CWA forecast cooler daytime temperatures around Taiwan on Saturday, with highs of 17 degrees in the north, 19-24 degrees in central Taiwan, and 25-28 degrees in the south.
According to CWA data, the lowest temperatures recorded in non-mountainous areas were 10.7 degrees in Shimen District in New Taipei and 11.1 degrees in the city’s Shiding District as of early morning.
Wet weather will prevail around the country at night when a cloud system bringing abundant moisture begins to move eastward from southern China, according to the CWA.
Wu Der-rong (吳德榮), an independent meteorologist, said there were chances of heavy rainfall in northern and central Taiwan from Sunday to Tuesday, while sporadic showers could occur in mountainous areas in the south.
Meanwhile, northern Taiwan will continue to see cool and wet weather from Monday to Wednesday, after which the cold air mass is expected to weaken, Wu said.
The weather during the four-day Tomb Sweeping holiday from Thursday to April 6 is expected to be sunny to cloudy across most of the country, although occasional showers could occur in the main island’s eastern half during this period, Wu added.
