Taipei, April 6 (CNA) More than a million people flocked to Kenting for the annual Taiwan Music Festival, which was held Thursday to Saturday, according to the organizers.
On the first day of the event in southern Taiwan, it attracted 300,000 fans, and that number grew to 410,000 by the second day, the Pingtung County government said, citing data from telecom operators.
Hours before Saturday’s shows began, thousands of fans had already gathered in front of the main stage on Kenting Beach, and at the end of the festival, data showed that attendance over the three-day period had exceeded 1 million, the county government said.
The fifth edition of the annual music festival climaxed Saturday with a performance by the popular Taiwanese rock band Fire Ex., which was joined by rapper Savage.M.
According to the county government, which organizes the festival, this was the third consecutive year that the total number of visitors surpassed 1 million.
The huge turnout can be attributed to the growing popularity of the music festival in southern Taiwan, and also to the fact that it is usually held close to the Tomb Sweeping holiday, which stretched this year from Thursday to Sunday, said Yin Feng-lan (鄞鳳蘭), head of the Pingtung Information and International Affairs Department.
She said the festival has not only become a mecca for music fans, but it also brings business opportunities to Pingtung and helps to stimulate the county’s economic development.
The Pingtung County government launched the Taiwan Music Festival in 2021, one year after the suspension of Spring Scream, Taiwan’s largest independent musical festival at the time, which was usually held in Pingtung’s Hengchun Township.
